Restoration of Earth: Time to Be Sustainable
With the developing urban landscape and increasing activities that cause more harm to the Earth than benefit, it is time to take a step back and reevaluate our actions for the future. We only have one planet Earth and it is currently under threat.
The COVID-19 pandemic has been a great wake-up call by highlighting the consequences of our actions so far. If something is done to reverse the damage, it might be too late to deal with the threat to our environment.
Minimizing Water Wastage
Usage of water is necessary to human survival. Although two-thirds of our planet is water, however, freshwater sources are limited. The problem does not end there.
Due to industrialization, these freshwater sources have been polluted and contaminated. Ensuring that water is available for a long time to come, it needs to be managed effectively. Minimizing water wastage is a priority.
Conscious efforts by every human being to reduce water wastage are important. Recycling water by treating it and storing rainwater to utilize it can allow for effective usage of water.
Adopting Sustainable Habits
Every single person alive and living on Earth has an equal responsibility to play our part in protecting our environment. The required change will not happen simply through major government actions but it begins with small changes made to adopt sustainable living.
Planting trees and plants in your community, reducing the usage of plastic, and recycling and repurposing waste products can help reduce your carbon footprint aiding the cause. These simple acts can play a huge role in saving our planet.
Practicing Conscious Consumerism
The age of social media has influenced people’s approach towards fashion, with more and more people trying to stay up to date and consume fashion products.
By watching their favorite influencers and celebrities wearing and promoting luxury products every day, people are getting immersed in fast fashion and buying clothes even if they do not need them.
Fast fashion and manufacturing and selling huge quantities of clothing have become popular models. This is a great threat to our environment. About 3,000 liters of water are used to produce a single pair of jeans.
This amount is enough for a person’s daily water intake for around five days. Practicing conscious consumerism and minimalism is a step in the right direction, towards sustainable living.
Advancing Towards Renewable Energy
The fossil fuels such as oil, coal, and natural gas drive our current economy. There is a limited supply of these fossil fuels and our heavy dependence on them is concerning.
If the current trends are not broken, not only will their supply deplete but also have a detrimental impact on the environment. The alternative option that can enable us to be environmentally friendly and cost-effective is to move towards renewable energy sources.
These sources such as water, solar, and wind can prove to be beneficial in producing energy and electricity while also reducing our carbon footprint.
